Seniors who choose to live at home independently often have to make the home more accessible. But be careful on the equipment you select. For example grab bars, not all are created equal. The No. 1 mistake people make is buying cheap grab bars, which do not support the weight of the person. A good grab bar should cost $60 – $80. If you are considering the options of replacing the steps with a ramp – using a wood overlay on top of concrete costs $1,000 – $2,000 versus a compete concrete redo which could cost as much as $8,000.
